The Sporting Times was created in 2004 by Doug Thompson Owner and Publisher. Mr. Thompson developed the concept from the ground floor, and the first copy was printed in February 2005. The Sporting Times was the first publication of its kind to feature student athletes and local youth sports exclusively.
The Sporting Times covers eight counties in South Central Kentucky, Warren, Barren, Edmonson, Allen, Logan, Simpson, Metcalfe and Monroe counties. In July of 2007, the Sporting Times expanded with a separate publication covering Elizabethtown, KY and surrounding areas.
The Sporting Times monthly publication is dedicated to the world of youth sports and other related activities in our area. Youth sports play an integral role in the development of student athletes. Regardless of talent level, our strong communities and schools feature a variety of valued activities for youth of all ages. Each month The Sporting Times will feature and highlight student athletes, youth programs, and community events from our area.
What makes our publication unique is the involvement of coaches, parents and athletes. Articles, features and scores can be submitted directly to the publisher. This broadens our scope of coverage and helps recognize youth sports and other local activities that are not featured in mainstream publications. As a Parent, Coach and Publisher of the Sporting Times, I know how exciting the world of youth sports is. The sense of commitment, hard work and dedication strengthens our children and families.
The Sporting Times is completely interactive publication. We encourage and invite coaches, parents, teachers, and business leaders to participate in the publication. We devote 100% of our efforts to the community. We are here for them. If it is important enough for an individual to call, email, mail or drop by to tell us about a person, event or announcement, it is important enough for us to print.
Sponsors and advertisers of the Sporting Times are part of a very unique, highly visible positive publication. Without them the publication would not be possible. Their support over the years has allowed the publication to grow. The Sporting Times appeals to a diverse population in every community. The Sporting Times prides itself on providing content that highlights area organizations, coaches, teams and student athlete’s academic and athletic achievements.
